About Pouria Khadem
Intro
Pouria Khadem is an Iranian composer and pianist whose music explores the quiet spaces between memory and tradition. His journey blends formal classical education with a deep connection to Persian musical roots, creating a voice that feels both personal and timeless.
Early Life & Background
Born on November 9, 1999, in Mashhad, Iran, Pouria grew up in a family known for its legacy in sports and public life. His father, Rasoul Khadem, is a former Olympic wrestling champion and a well-known public figure in Iran.
Despite this background, Pouria’s world turned toward music from an early age. He began learning piano at the age of five, and by the time he was nine, he had already won first place in a national piano competition for all ages in the “Persian Piano” category.
Artistic Path
Over the years, Pouria performed with orchestras across Iran, Armenia, Romania, Italy, and the UK. At age 12, he was invited to perform Shahin Farhat’s Piano Concerto with the Craiova Philharmonic in Romania, and later presented the same piece under the baton of Loris Tjeknavorian in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall.
He also performed works by Fikret Amirov and participated in international festivals, both as a soloist and a composer. His collaborations span from classical solo concerts to full-scale musical theatre productions like Alamdar and Seven Labours of Esfandiar.
Musical Approach
Pouria’s compositions often draw from Persian microtonal systems, interpreted through classical Western techniques. Rather than fusing styles for effect, his music grows naturally from a space where the two traditions meet—rooted in structure, yet open to emotion and experimentation.
He describes this process as “writing in a space where language begins to fall apart.”
Beyond Music
Pouria remains connected to his family’s tradition of public service. He is occasionally involved in cultural and charitable projects led by his father, particularly those related to underprivileged communities and youth empowerment in Iran.
