Constitutional
A solo piano piece in Persian tuning
“Constitutional” is a solo piano piece composed and performed by Pouria Khadem, featuring a unique Persian tuning system. It bridges classical Western piano technique with modal nuances rooted in Iranian music, creating a contemplative work that honors the spirit of social change.
This piece takes its name from the Iranian Constitutional Revolution (1905–1911), a pivotal movement that established Iran’s first national parliament. On July 14, 1909, ordinary Iranians—merchants, clergy, intellectuals—rose against absolute monarchy, echoing their calls for freedom and justice through history.
With “Constitutional”, Khadem evokes this ancestral spirit, using music as a universal language to reflect on dignity, liberty, and the endurance of human aspiration.
